I'm Matt, and here on DIY Perks you'll find plenty of interesting DIY projects on a variety of topics, including computers, woodworking, electronics, audio, and more!
I hope you enjoy my content, and please consider subscribing if you do!
EMAIL...
For project questions, the best way is either on Patreon or the Patreon chat server: patreon.com/diyperks as I get too many emails to keep up with.
However if you want to get in touch with me directly for sponsorship enquiries, fan mail, or just to say 'hi' (no project questions please) then send an email to [email protected] - I do get quite a few though so please allow 7 days for a response.

Regarding the use of acetone, it's not the most dangerous chemical in the world (it's used in nail varnish remover for example) but it's always a good idea to wear suitable gloves when handling it and be in a well ventilated environment during its use so you don't breathe in the fumes. It's also worth noting that the vapours themselves are very flamable, so keep sparks and open flames well away from your work area during use. Again, this is why it's important to be in a well ventilated environment.

I'm in an experimental mood and thought I'd try building a modern bellows system! Will it work? Let's find out! Also, head to squarespace.com/diyperks to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using offer code PERKS I hope you guys enjoyed this crazy build! It's been a wild journey trying to get this video released - firstly with the delays caused by the ideas that didn't work, and then ultimately by a HARD DRIVE FAILURE! Literally ALL the footage in this video was lost, and it was only thanks to some great data recovery fellows that you're seeing this at all. Backup system implemented now, fyi ;) because of these delays, this is actually quite an old video now (like 1 year) but I'm glad it's able to see the light of day as I think the final result is SUPER COOL! In hind sight I may not have started this project of perseverance, but it taught me such a lot in terms of which projects to make to show you guys and how experimental I can ultimately risk being. I know that basically none of you will make this, but the methodology ultimately settled upon is interesting and might have many more use cases. Either way it makes for interesting watching, so I hope you all enjoy it! ~Matt

If a speaker has 8ohms, and you wire 6 of them up in series, the resistance will be 48ohms (6 x 8 = 48), which is too much for an amplifier. Wiring them in parallel results in 1.4Ohms (8 / 6 = 1.333) which is too little for the amplifier. So, what I did was divide the 6 speakers into 3 sets of 2, and wire each set of 2 together in series for 16ohm. I then connected these 3 16ohm sets in parallel to result in an overall resistance of 5.4Ohms, which should be within a typical expected range for an amplifier (4 to 8 ohms).

This is all possible because of the technology used inside the backlight mechanism, as I explain in the video. Enjoy! These links are 'affliliate links' which means I may earn a small commission from purchases made through them (at no cost to the purchaser). Here are the LED strips I recommend: amzn.to/2YsXGsm You can also buy them on eBay: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575347517&toolid=10001&campid=5338215129&customid=&icep_item=183773675897&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg And here's how to make them with laptop screens: noburn.info/id/video/v2aufJiKmYeHaKA.html

Discover details about your unique family history, go to ancestry.com/perks to save 10% on an AncestryDNA kit! In this video I give my thoughts about the Anet A8 3D Printer, which is currently for sale for just $155: Amazon: bit.ly/Anet3DPrinter (higher price) eBay UK (ships locally so is roughly the same price after shipping): ebay.to/2hL5nB9 GearBest: goo.gl/rp1UqJ ($155 with coupon code GBA8TW) GearBest did provide me with the 3D printer, but they weren't at all involved with this video so had no influence on what was said. I have no commitments with them, future or present. Video sponsored by AncestryDNA.

How to Make High Performance Sound Absorption Panels for $5
How to Make High Performance Sound Absorption Panels for $5
4 år siden
In this video I explore the possibility of making DIY sound absorption panels on a budget, later comparing them to much more expensive acoustic foam. The results are pretty amazing! There have been many comments pointing out that my test only measures transmission and not reflection, so is essentially unsuitable for my initial testing goal. While this is partly true, testing reflection is pretty difficult to do in a home environment, and the only way to do it that I can think of would be to spend a long time in the middle of a field with a powerful speaker and mic rig, which is really beyond the scope of what I was prepared to do for the video. My tests are not rendered pointless however - it would do no good to have only measured reflection, as the thinnest lightest material would have won (like foam), as nothing would have bounced back. Reflection and transmission need to be tested together to measure how much sound passes through, and how much sound is reflected back - this should give an indication of how much sound is absorbed by a given material. Regardless, only testing the transmission doesn't affect the outcome of the project at all, as any sound waves reflected by the panels themselves would have theoretically bounced off the wall anyway - again this is why reflection wasn't tested, as it doesn't matter so much for a panel setup (though would matter very much for a vocal booth). Open to hear any thoughts about it though! Keep up the great discussion. :)

In this video we're going to be recycling some broken laptop screens to make a fake window light for some cosy evening illumination! FAQ: LED_EN (the 'on button') is sometimes called EN, ENA, BL_ON, LEDON, BL_EN, or ENAB PWM may also be PWM_1 VLED (12v) may also be called VCCS, or LED_VCCS. If you can't find it try and find the fuse instead and solder to that. If you can't find a pad it may be because it's referenced with a number instead (R110 for example), with its full name given in a key somewhere else on the PCB (sometimes framed by a white box). If any of you find some other names for the above pads please let me know and I'll add them to the list! Want a free audiobook? Not only is the sound quality fantastic, but it can also go super loud! It's also quite easy to build, and doesn't require any special tools - you can get away with just a hammer, nail, and a screwdriver if needed. Seriously! Full parts list (includes international purchasing links): docs.google.com/document/d/1_QFMFvOnSVxPGSobcSUu6EKzrBZ9FB-dHIpLOE9gW3Y Happy building! Oh, by the way, here's the note about the little switches: These switches change the gain mode of the amp. If they're both on, the amp can reach insane(er) volume levels. However, to hit these volume levels without distortion, the amp needs 25v, which is more than our batteries can provide. The amp is loud enough with them off, and it also means that the signal to noise ratio is MUCH improved, so I don't really recommend messing with them.

Here's the natural white LED strip that I used in this video: Amazon: amzn.to/2zOqhe3 eBay: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_item=181923340623&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg Music by RoyaltyFreeKings

This homemade unit provides remote access to all the ports and devices that would otherwise be on the PC itself, meaning that the PC can be elsewhere (where you can't hear it!). This tiny thing is HUGELY loud. Quite epic, actually! Especially for £2 posted. Specs: Stereo 3w per channel, 5v. Great for little portable audio projects, where big sound and small size are needed. I have one planned, and will make a step-by-step video about it. :) Ebay link: www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=3w+5v+amplifier&_sacat=0&_odkw=3w+5v+amp&_sop=15&gbr=1&_fcid=3&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_clu=2 Music by royalty-free-kings.com (used with permission, one of their free tracks)

So I just finished the basic build for a TV cabinet I'm building. I tried using a 12vdc 8a (output) power supply.....it barely moved the shelf. I then plugged in a 19vdc power supply....better. I'm going to try a 24vdc next, hopefully that works better. The end product needs to lift a 25# tv. Fingers crossed.

While it does look nice, I stand with my comment from the table video, to go with a micro projector.

@DIY Perks - Fantastic work! Few ideas immediately. Style your 4k tower projector similarly but as a lamp to serve as a companion piece? Perhaps a modern lighthousey style to it with smallish screen to diffusing led lamp conversions around it, camouflaging the projector, beautiul illumination from the panels and scope for some imagination . Adding audio to the shelf ends would be an easy mod. One or any odd number of polished washers would make nice camo for a camera/cameras too. Might I also suggest changing out the black cables running to your shelf for white ones, having used a shade of Sharpie or three to style bontanically. Personally would debadge the monitor, no matter the brand ;) Absolutely love your craftsmanship, presentation and humility, Matt. Remain blessed in Jesus.

To speed up the process you might experiment with chilling the model so the vapors condense on it faster. Many years ago we used to prank restaurant greeters by using my mother in laws Polish maiden name, Szczygielski, instead of my common 4-letter Irish name. Fun ensued when they tried to pronounce it.

YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER. I have been suffering from anxiety because of our hard drive. We waited and searched for months as to what we could do but all we found is to spend $1500 with an uncertainty that files won't be recovered. Last night we took a leap of faith to do this and we were screaming because it worked! Thank you for your help!!!

Another wonderful Project. You can really make anything so gorgeous! It's been a long while since I'm here and see the progress of your work. From a simple DIY to one extravagant and totally wonderful work of art. I already started my own channel and have DIYs and also targeting Million - wish me luck. I know it's not that good compare to you but what important is that because of you my creativity and talent in making beautiful things blossom. Thank you so much for inspiring me and I know a lot of people out there have been inspired by what you are doing. Always be safe. Truly Amazing Talent!!!
