About this video...
What benefits might you receive by stepping away from social media for 30 days? I'm challenging you to take a break for the next 30 days to clear your mind & do some mental decluttering.
With less distractions I’m planning to commit more time to creating things, reading & maybe even sitting still.
I don’t think social media is inherently evil but it’s very easy to get swept up in comparing yourself to others & it often distractions me from the work I find most valuable.
I’ll still be posting a bit on each platform but these will be pushed through 3rd party apps so I won’t ever have to log in. NOburn is critical for me to make videos, pull clips & research so I will continue to use it.
Whether you're watching this video on the day I release it or in a years time... it's always a good time to rethink our approach to social media.
💯 When your break is over, you can keep in touch here:

Thanks for watching!

I’m going off the juice. For the month of October I’m taking a break from social media. With less distractions I’m planning to commit more time to creating things, reading & maybe even sitting still.
I don’t think social media is inherently evil but it’s very easy to get swept up in comparing yourself to others & it often distractions me from the work I find most valuable.
To be clear: I’ll still be posting a bit on each platform but these will be pushed through 3rd party apps so I won’t ever have to log in. YouTube is critical for me to make videos, pull clips & research so I will continue to use it.
That said I will greatly reduce my time spent on YouTube for the next 30 days. This is the perfect opportunity to call me an asshole in the comments without hurting my feelings 😂😂

Very good advice and if you really think about it social media is stupid, like if you really want to spend some quality time with your friends and family you should hang out with them in person (don't video chat!),you will become close and get too know each other more,I deleted my facebook account for at least month before this video came out and it was a good decision and very effective, I did same for my instagram, and you know it's not awful to get to spend some more time with yourself,if you suffer your own companionship then obviously you are in bad company, don't chase for the illusionary world of facebook, instagram get back to the real world, it's quite beautiful if you really pay attention to it... Big fan @Matt D'Avella.. Please write a book,I will definitely buy it... Lots of love and respect from India....🙏🙏🙏 Soumya

Matt D'avella I know that's sound counter productive for you, but can you please make a video about quitting NOburn? I spent so much time on it and it's my biggest addiction.

Ok. One year forward and how much time do spend on social media Matt? Did your experiment help you to stay on track until now?

I’ve gone one week without social media and the first two days I had withdrawal but then I got used to it over time. I actually like people not knowing what I’m up to and being in my business.
If a friend does reach out they can genuinely find out what’s being going on in my life and we can have a legitimate conversation about it instead of them watching my “stories” and thinking they already have the information they need and thinking there’s no need for contact.!

This is in motion now. I'm day 2 no SM. But, I'm wondering if I should make an announcement on FB that I'm going on a FB fast or is that counter productive and me trying to manufacture an excuse to get back on FB?

6:25 is it really about being more productive? I feel like quitting social media is more like going back to reality. I can't express how empty life is when I rely on social media to get human interactions. For me being more productive is not the goal, the goal is to feel more alive.

I don’t have a problem with Facebook. Now it’s YouTube checking everyday to see if I have a new sub. And I shouldn’t worry about that. I have the numbers hidden right now but you can still look in studio. Trying my best to not look and just make videos for fun.

The good thing about youtube, I only follow good channels and have a huge watch later list I'm happy to have. All these videos actually helpful and somewhat going to help me. but Instagram, twitter etc. are useless. I decided to restrict them to 20 mins a day max. I will reply dms and like my girlfriend's posts. no explore tab, no scrolling home page. I think this will work.

I was totally addicted to twitter when I was 15-16. I tweeted all my business, all the time. I didn't know what else to do with my day. It took me a loooong time to get out of that habit. Over a month ago, I finally deactivated my twitter, and it is now gone completely. I don't miss it at all. It was such a good decision! I finally have friends and an amazing boyfriend, and I am so happy with my life. I don't need twitter anymore to fill my time. 🥰 - 2 måneder siden

Many people consider Youtube to be a waste of time. I don't. Youtube for me is an encyclopedia and a source of entertainment. Sometimes, I get bored with reading articles and tutorials. It's good to gain some knowledge with a video format. I've learnt a lot through it. Personal Finance and Minimalism are two topics (for ex.) I'm advanced in, as some of you know, they are rarely discussed in our society/schools.

Many people charge you to learn something but as far as I know, Youtube offers free videos to watch and you can learn that ''something'' through it without spending a cent. It's about finding the right source where you get the information from.

What about Facebook and Instagram and other social networks?
-They're full of ads.
-You compare yourself to others without knowing the truth or their side of the story (but hey, try to convince your brain).
-You feel bad for the rest of the day.
-From 5 minutes it becomes an hour of infinite refreshing.
-The moment there's nothing to do when you're outside you grab your device instead of enjoying the moment and observing.

It's about finding a balance with Youtube. Watch something to entertain yourself but at the same time, watch something to learn at least once a day. Youtube is the most minimalistic app, I've ever seen. I mean education and entertainment in one app?

When me and my bf of 2yrs and half broke up again 3 weeks ago, I came up with a sudden decision to deactivated and uninstalled my Fb,insta, Skype,WhatsApp,Twitter, and Snapchat . Once a week, I open my messages on my messenger to check group chats because of the covid-19, we all did take online classes from my university and my prof updates assignments, projects and online exam on msgr. After checking msgr I will deactivate it again. All of it just because I’m trying to move on from him as well as from the toxic social media’s. Except Youtube and Wattpad

I haven't been using my social accounts (facebook, instagram, twitter) for 4 months now (I'm planning to not use them for a whole year) and I have to say that that was one of the best decisions I have made, suddenly I have more time to do the things that I wanna do. However, I have been lately replacing the time that I was surfing on the social media in youtube or other apps. So instead of just not using my social accounts, I've been thinking of not using my cellphone at all for maybe 30 days.

Great video. I permanently deleted my Facebook account over 3 years ago and was the best thing I’ve ever done. Also deleted my Twitter account. Never had Snapchat but kept Instagram purely for photos which I’m lucky if I use that once a month. I was diagnosed with severe depression a few years ago and my psychiatrist advised me that social media will drain you with all the negativity. I took her advice and never looked back since. Just subscribed to your channel. Thank you
