BAD IDEA. Rings made of super strong materials (tungsten carbide in particular) are ill advised. Consider yourself fortunate for being too young to experience a friend or family member losing a finger to anaphalaxis (sp?) because their ring was too strong to easily clip off in time when their hand swelled because of an unexpected drug interaction, food allergy, bee sting, et al. Dont take my word for it - just ask any ER Nurse or ER Doctor.
Stick with gold - it's soft. Perhaps a damascus of yellow and white gold ?

It cracked because you didn't preheat the metal prior to welding especially when it's that thick

Great job. Even better that you are willing to admit when things aren't going well instead of glossing over them. Thanks again for such great content.

yikes, you gotta use a mask when you're grinding titanium man, shits so inert it'll just sit in your lungs until you cough it out.

Some amethyst would have been a better choice. The purple can range from reddish to deep violet to deep sapphire blue.

People are saying to get gloves for grinding, but little factoid: NEVER wear gloves while using rotary tools like grinders as it can catch the glove and pull your hand in.
My grandfather worked on machines for films and that happened to one of his coworkers. He was lucky his hand wasnt completely destroyed.
Also something in 'lab safety' they go over if you take something like a jewlery class or something using those tools

Pro tip for turning titanium,
You have to flood cool it.
It work hardens right at the spot where the bit is when it cuts the material so you have to cut pretty fast and flood cool it to keep it from work hardening and ruining all your buts. I hooked up a little fish tank pump to a tub of used motor oil.

Could you make a magnetic/clamp jig that allowed you to hold those thin stainless sheets against the grinder without grinding your hands (if all the pieces are the same size, one jig could be used fairly repeatably)? Or use the surface grinder instead of the flat plattern.?

Just so you know you were cutting that titanium too fast. It was getting really hot which will work harden the material making it very hard to cut. So in the future I would recommend slowing down. This at least works with stainless steel so I would imagine it should work for titanium as well

Titanium burns like magnesium under the right conditions, though it is not as easily set off. One of its many non-iron characteristics...

Ti 64 is such a pain to work with, it burns the tools and dulls them down so quickly, tapping the material using hss taps allows you to get about 2-5 holes in 10mm thick material.

Doesn’t soaking stainless for a long time deplete the chromium content, which reduces the formation of chromium carbides, and thus making it less corrosive resistant?

After playing almost non-stop since immediately after this video was released, I had to give up. I attacked Vikings a couple hundred times and got 7 of those rings, total. When I went to craft the legendary version, I found out it takes 1,296 total to make 1 legendary. I wish I would have realized that from the beginning because the game isn't fun.
Nothing against you, man. I love your stuff. This game can go to hell though. At least whoever wins the ring will have definitely earned it.

Hey Alec a way to heat blue a piece and get a really even colour is to make a brass dish full of brass lathe chips or shavings and place your piece in the center. Heat the brass shavings up with a torch in a circular motion around your piece and it will heat blue evenly then quench when it's the colour you want

I’ve gotta tell you Alec, I’ve been enjoying watching forging and smithing videos for quite some time, but in just the last year or so I’ve decided that I actually want to DO this. To make things and generate tons of doise and learn, learn, learn as much as possible all the while. Sadly I’m 34 and a father of three very small children, so as yet I have had neither the funds nor the time to actually get myself started. But I think a couple months ago or so now, I subscribed to your channel and started following your videos in earnest. And I just wanted to let you know that, for such a young guy who is, himself, still learning new things all the time, you are without a doubt the most inspiring and educational smith that I’ve yet had the pleasure to watch work. Even if it is just YouTube, I feel enormously enriched from the way you approach the craft and your own desire to improve with each new thing you make. I plan to take your advice and take a few classes on blacksmithing and welding, and even if it takes a decade or better, I’m gonna make some stuff. So thank you. Sincerely. For trying to actually make the rest of us just a little bit smarter and more capable.
