Are you serious? You advertise a sponsor at the beginning of each video and i'm completly fine with it. But then you have 4 additional commercial breaks in a 15 minute video? Every round about 4 minutes on top? No offence - 1 additional break maybe 2 - ok no problem but 4? It is neither fun to watch, nor does it make sense if you have a sponsor.

you should have left the head angle their putting you on an XC bike the head angle gets steeper as you go through the travel on a hardtail thats nuts
MTB Freeks
MTB Freeks - 2 dager siden
@Alec Steele okay well as long as your intent was to ride more XC style trails they nailed it! And don't get me wrong I like more conservative geometry that's why I bought my Devinci Troy however I just built a Marino full squish bike (custom geometry 4130 Chromoly MTB) you can check it out on my channel 63° HTA 78° STA 470mm reach medium with 450 chain stays drop -30 BB and this thing pedals as good as any full suspension bike on earth while also descending like a DH bike modern geometry is kind of a jack of all trades style of making bikes and with just the HTA changing I feel like it would have been an amazing bike for all things

They asked me how I was planning to ride it and figured the more XC geo would suit it and I think they did right on that choice!

What a shame that you changed the geometry, most modern hardtail trailbikes are closer to that 64-65° head angle so that would have been cool to see

Hi Alec,
I have a question for you as you are building a bike.
SECURITY for bikes, bike crime in London is ridiculous at the moment and i have a £4,500 Specialized enduro 2020 but see all theses videos showing how easy it is to get through the vast majority off chains even upto 19mm to 22mm and the 12mm to 18mm seem to be like a hot knife through butter with batterypowered angle grinder,, i guess a lot off this is down to strength off the metal and heat treatments etc.
Have you ever made a chain etc and whats the hardest metal rattings.
Would be intresting to see how you would approach it if you was interested in doing something like that.

As an amateur, learning as you go, beginner welder your welds do look pretty good, but there are some things you could try to try and alleviate some movement especially with stainless steel. I could be completely wrong with some of my ideas seeing that they come from 10 years of naval pipe welding and not bike frame fabricating but it looks like your using 70-s wire and not SS wire like 316L or 308(depending on the grade of stainless) and also for thin walled pipe , purging the weld area or the entire pipe system with 100% argon would keep it cooler on the inside and lower the chances of blowing through. That is if you aren’t doing that already haha. And by no means am I trying to sound boastful or anything I just like to give advice or tips (hopefully they apply to this project) when I can. Keep up the awesome work.

I totally love your chanel! I enjoy your forging so much, because I am a welder and I never forged in my life but it looks so great when you do it. Maybe think about putting inert gas at the backside from where you weld. If you get through stainless steel it becomes ugly and gas from the backsite avoids that. I am not sure, but are you using the right wire for stainless steel? For me it looks like you are using the one for normal steel...

I apprenticed as a semi-pro race bike frame builder in the 80's for Velocitate Equis. This was old skool tube and lug brazed technology. Reynolds 531 and Columbus sl/slx were the tubing of choice. Try as you may, brazing the frame will require some time tweaking after the build. Vertical/horizontal frame tables/jigs and hanging strings. The process of locking down your hard points (BB and head tube) and massaging the other tubes to center line to ensure tracking. Enjoying the build!

I heard back in the day when people were welding BMX bikes in the 1980's, they would have to weld about 4 frames to get to where they could put down good beads and not burn through. They would imagine the weld and what they would do before cutting in and starting to burn it. If they had a couple burn throughs early in the day, they would stop and come back the next day.
A lot of older bike frames were brazed together and held with stress pins or screws. Schwinn comes to mind. These were not strong enough for dirt riding, but can be used on low-stress attachment parts, or layered in for stuff like forming bottom brackets on 10 and 15 speeds. Check out "fillet brazing" pictures. Tig welding bike frames is not for the faint of heart, right below tig welding high performance engine parts and rocket manifolds for places like Air Jet, I think.
